Ficuzza

Ficuzza, a little jewel overlooking the wood, will charm you as soon as you arrive. It was Ferdinand III, King of Sicily who wanted to build a hunting lodge at the end of 1700, the Real Casina di Caccia.

Once reached the village, you will see in front of you the incredible spectacle of the severe Bourbon palace surrounded by the green wood of the natural reserve. A wonderful beauty that it is hard to describe in words, as well as the majestic geological formation of the Rocca Busambra, known among paleontologists around the world for its fossils.

In 2000 the wood was included in the Natural Reserve Bosco della Ficuzza, Rocca Busambra, Bosco del Cappelliere and Gorgo del Drago, established by the Sicilian region, and nowadays it is an area full of charm and with a fauna and a flora that represent 80 % of the fauna species in Sicily. Every place is an enhancement: Gole del Drago, Acqua Ammucciata, Gorgo Lungo, but also the wood and the Grotta del Romito.

The whole reserve is rich in colors, emotions, feelings, from the barked trunks, to the deers, from the follis to the magpies, the jay and hoopoe that whirl in the sky, a place to discover to fall in love with it!
